Types of Hot Water Cylinders

When it comes to hot water cylinders, there are two main types: vented and unvented. Vented cylinders are the most common type and are typically found in older homes. They work by using a cold water feed and a gravity-fed system to fill the cylinder with water. This system means that vented cylinders need to be located near an external wall so that the cold water pipe can vent to the outside.

Unvented cylinders, on the other hand, don't require a cold water feed or a gravity-fed system. Instead, they're filled with mains cold water and have their own internal pump. This makes them more expensive than vented cylinders, but they're also much more efficient. Unvented cylinders are becoming increasingly popular in new builds as they don't require an external vent and can be located anywhere in the home.
